The Department of Health (DOH) and 3M Philippines hold its second leg of training on new global sterilization standards among medical and health professionals at the Bayview Park Hotel, Manila on 24-28 September 2012.
The event aimed to improve the level of care and patient’s safety in the country’s hospital and health centers by making health practitioners aware on sterilization standards for hospitals and healthcare facilities set by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) and the Joint Commission International (JCI).
Dr. Cynthia Rosuman, DOH’s Standards Development Division Chief said that this training is important to help improve quality healthcare and prevent healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) in the country. This effort was backed-up by the institutionalization of the new global sterilization standards which was signed by Secretary Enrique T. Ona last July of this year.
Dr. Norman Lu, Regional Clinical Consultant from 3M Asia Pacific – Infection Prevention Division, commended DOH for the swift creation of guidelines and implementation of the new sterilization standards.
The event were attended by doctors, nurses, medical technologists and hospital personnel from different public and private hospitals in CALABARZON
The DOH concluded a similar training in the National Capital Region (NCR) last June, and is set to conduct the same training in Visayas and Mindanao next year.
Meanwhile, 3M Philippines is also extending a similar program to hospital personnel interested in learning sterilization and monitoring in compliance to the new DOH standards.
