Singapore International Cyber Week is set on 18 September 2018

LIKE in years past, scores of delegates, participants, and visitors from government and private organizations are expected to attend the Singapore International Cyber Week (SICW) 2018 on September 18-20 at Suntec Singapore Convention & Exhibition Centre (SSCEC).

    A gathering of cybersecurity warriors

Thousands of cybersecurity experts from the region and beyond its borders are expected to participate, some of them joining a battery of speakers lined up for the three-day annual event.

In 2017, the Singapore International Cyber Week has attracted more than 7,000 cybersecurity experts and 250 exhibitors, sponsors and speakers.

Organizers are expecting a bigger turnout and better SICW for this year.

The SICW is touted as “the region’s most established cybersecurity event…the ideal platform to discuss, network, strategize and form partnerships in the cybersecurity space, with an emphasis on international and regional cooperation, cyber ecosystem development and ever-evolving innovation.”

    Trusted and open cyber world

Speakers will deliver speeches, lectures, and talks revolving around the theme “Forging a Trusted and Open Cyberspace.”

They are expected to talk about issues and concerns in a connected world and not stray away from the theme “which reflects the importance of trust and openness in cyberspace, given the fast-evolving and complex cybersecurity landscape.”

Among the keynote speakers are Kevin Mandia, CEO, FireEye; Mike McConnel, former director, National Security Administration (NSA) and member, National Intelligence, Strategic Advisory Board; Dr. Malcolm Shore, CSO, Huawei Technologies (Australia) Pty. Ltd.; Ravinder Singh, president, Electronics, ST Engineering; and John Steward, SVP, chief security and trust officer.

Within SICW 2018 are some events, among them, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Ministerial Conference on Cybersecurity, ASEAN Cybercrime Prosecutors’ Roundtable meeting, and Government Ware (GovWare), etch.

GovWare will feature over 100 government officials, thought leaders, visionaries, technology experts and industry professionals, and more than 100 exhibitors and sponsors.

It is described as “the leading platform for practical, focused and unbiased knowledge on cybersecurity.”

Two of the distinguished guests include Singapore Deputy Prime Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security Teo Chee Hean, and Minister for Communications and Information and Minister-in-charge of Cyber Security S. Iswaran, the host minister of SICW.

According to SICW 2018 website, with cyber threats potentially impacting national security, economic and societal well-being of nations and those beyond its borders, multi-stakeholder discussions and collaborations have become more critical.

Singapore International Cyber Week 2018 will bring together governments, industry, and academia for exchange on topics ranging from cybersecurity trends and solutions, cyber norms and behavior, to capacity-building efforts under one roof.
