Are you a graduating high school student and wishes to pursue courses on basic sciences, mathematics or engineering?  If yes, you are encouraged to avail the Department of Science and Technology Region 9 – Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) undergraduate scholarships.
Acceptance of application is now open until October 5, 2012.
DOST-SEI Region 9 offers two scholarship programs, the Merit Scholarship Program and RA 7687 Scholarship Program, open to poor but talented and deserving students. These scholarships aim to produce and develop high quality human resources who will steer the Science and Technology (S&T) and Research Development (R&D) efforts in the country.
Scholarship applicants shall be selected on the basis of their performance in the S&T Scholarship examination that will be conducted nationwide on 18 November 2012 in the cities of Zamboanga, Pagadian and Dipolog.
Scholarship applicants must be a high school senior student belonging to the upper 5% of the graduating class and natural-born Filipino, with good moral character and must not be applying for resident or immigration status in any country.
Those who have already earned units in any post-secondary / undergraduate course or have taken any DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Examinations are disqualified from applying. Moreover, applicants to the S&T Scholarship (RA 7687) must have been a resident of the municipality for the last four (4) years, as attested by barangay / school records.
Scholars must seek admission and enroll at any state universities and colleges; tertiary institutions identified as Centers of Excellence or Centers of Development by CHED for the priority courses; and DOST-SEI identified network institutions. Aside from maintaining the grade requirements, awardees should comply with the terms of the scholarship agreement that include, among others, serving in the country on full-time basis along the field of training for a minimum period equivalent to the length of time the scholarship was enjoyed upon completion of the course.
Among the privileges that DOST scholars will be receiving are tuition and other school fees up to P6,000/semester/term, monthly stipend of P5,000.00/month (for BS Physics/Applied Physics/Physics Teaching/Geology and Mining Engineering) and P4,000.00/month for other DOST-SEI priority courses, book allowance of P5,000/year, physical education uniform allowance, free transportation for one economy-class round trip fare between permanent residence and the place of study on reimbursement basis (for those studying outside their place of permanent residence), group health and accident insurance, additional privileges during summer, if required by the curriculum, and post-graduation clothing allowance.
