    Blogging: Why people blog?

why blogI was in a hurry to buy a point and shoot camera and looking for an advice — what would be the best camera (brands and specifications) that worth my limited budget. As I used to do, I consulted Dr. Google. Upon searching on the topic, I got tons of articles on “best digital cameras.” What was good about it was, I exactly found the information I was looking.

You probably agree to me that there are mountains of information in the internet that can answer some if not all of our queries. Helpful information is now literally “within our finger tips.” Huge chunk of these shared information in the World Wide Web are attributed to the increasing numbers of bloggers in the whole world. But have you ever think why bloggers do blogging? What drives them to keep doing it? Here are some points I would like to stress.

Blogging as a hobby – Blogging is purely a personal choice – I mean, you’re doing it because you want doing it – it is a personal motivation.  People do blogging because they want to document their thought, ideas and experiences. If you enjoyed your “old school diary,” you maybe happier to do blogging now because blogging is termed as (modern) online journal or online diary (upgraded!).

In a study conducted by Technorati in 2011 about the reasons why people do blogging, revealed that 61 percent of blogger (respondents) do blogging because of personal and social reasons. This only proved that blogging is indeed a personal choice or a hobby other than for money.

Blogging help you build leadership – As you go along with your personal blogging “as a choice,” people will admire your ideas — then blogging eventually help you build your reputation. See for example the founder of Mashable.com, Pete Cashmore, who started a personal blog that became the authority in news reporting about digital innovation in the whole world. Cashmore started to share his then own ideas about new gadgets thru his blogs, now a boss running the most influential “tech blog” in the world.

Blogging as a potential source of money – After you’ve set or established your blog with your chosen niche (market), example: gadgets, technologies, how-to’s, etc., opportunities starts to come in.

Blog shapes minds. It influences people in making decisions, thus, potential for advertising and corporate building. According to studies, blogs or advertising thru blogs, is considered one of the most effective marketing strategy nowadays. Yes you’ve heard it right, “blogging is the most effective marketing strategy today” To get you more excited, advertising is only one of the many, money-making potentials for blogs. After all, through your blog, people can see your expertises which may lead to more opportunities not only for money but for career development.

I’m sure I’ve missed some other reasons why do people blog but at least you get the idea now. When you’re planning to start your own blog, the first step is to understand exactly why you’re blogging. Without a clear understanding of why you’re doing so, it is impossible to develop your goals and guidelines to meet your blogging objective.
